This is a collection of Danna Walker’s projects and writing. The name is inspired by the intersection of media and the symbolism of Mrs. Emma Peel, a fictional feminist icon of the 1960s. Mrs. Peel is the embodiment of competing ideas in regard to women, their place in society and their representation in media. Plus, she looks cool with a gun.

Professor Walker is a communication researcher and academic who takes a critical and historical approach in studying media and their influence, with an emphasis on gender studies and media. Walker has had numerous articles in academic publications, on Web sites and in the mainstream media. She has over 25 years of experience as a journalist working as a reporter, writer and editor in New York, Washington, DC, and other cities for an international wire service and for CBS News. As a journalist, she has covered the U.S. Congress and other government agencies. Her award-winning doctoral dissertation was on journalism history, specifically on women in journalism and the dissident feminist press.
Her current research uncovers the pivotal role women have taken in the beginnings of the technological revolution in the news media as well as the evolution of pedagogy in journalism education. She has also researched the coverage of women-centered events by the news media, as well as the application of feminist theories in communication. New areas of research include the effects of digital media on youth and society, and feminist pedagogy.
